About Us

Phil Malsch:

Phil was born in the Great Lake State, Michigan, where about every five miles you can fish a different lake. Phil grew up on an inland lake fishing small pan fish. Once old enough, he graduated to running the deck of father’s boat fishing the Great Lakes for salmon, lake trout, brown trout, steelhead and walleye. Phil’s passion for being around the water and fishing pushed him to enlist in the United States Navy. Phil has fished from the East Coast to the West Coast at his various duty stations both saltwater and freshwater. While stationed in West Virginia, Phil met his wife Gina and Mike (though Gina and Tiffany). Phil was stationed overseas for seven years and has returned back for his final tour of duty in North Carolina, where he has been fishing the Chesapeake Bay and the waters out of Oregon Inlet. Phil has two wonderful children Hunter and Hailey, who both love to fish.

Mike Huddleston:

Mike was born in sunny San Diego, California (no jokes please!) and was fortunate enough to live a mile from the ocean and a mile from the bay. This allowed him to fish so much that his mother wanted to take him to a psychiatrist because she was worried about his “Fishing obsession”. Mike was fortunate enough to have a family friend, Dave Grimes that had a 31’ Bertram. Mr. Grimes loved to fish. This wonderful man taught Mike the ways of Yellowfin, Albacore, Yellowtail, Mahi, and a variety of other Pacific water fish. Mike got his first real job when he was 15, working as a deck hand on a 1-3 day charter boat for the next few summers out of Fisherman’s Landing on boat called the “Cat Special”. Needless to say, this did nothing to help his obsession, and he proceeded to fine tune his passion for saltwater fishing. Mike then proceeded to fail out of 2 colleges (due to fishing too much), and joined up with the USMC. So for the next 4 years, Mike was lucky enough to be stationed in Adak, AK., where he caught barn door halibut and red salmon for 18 months, and Camp Lejune , NC., where he caught specs, flounder, bass, and other near shore fish due to the lack of a boat. He married Tiffany (a girl he met in Adak), and they settled in Rocky Mount, NC, where Mike continues to fish out of Oregon Inlet, Hatteras, Ocracoke, and the Chesapeake bay. They have 3 beautiful children and every one of them, you guessed it…. loves to FISH!!!
